About

River Lark, area owned and managed by Parish Council with picnic benches and litter bin. Park on road opposite church, space for 4 cars. 10 minute walk (650m) from parking along tarmac road then dirt path which does become muddy. Cheese wedge type steps cut into bank to enter water. Shallow at entry, waist deep and swimmable upstream and deeper downstream as long as you are able to get back against the flow. Chalk stream River bed so shoes recommended.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check recent rainfall. Rivers rise fast after heavy rain.
  • Never swim in fast-flowing or flooded water
  • Test entry/exit before you commit. River banks can be undercut.
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Watch for submerged obstacles like branches, weirs, and rocks

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.
