Lovely swim near a car park called Machell Coppice which is free. just skip across the road to get into the lake. lovely swim with good views

The dot on the map is on the west side, but Machell Coppice car park is on the east. Lots of clingy plants just below the surface between Peel (Wildcat) Island and the shore - spooked me out and I baled to the canoe in the end! Otherwise beautiful area.

Stayed at Hoathwaite campsite and accessed Coniston Water directly from the site. Awesome. Off to swim Peel Island tomorrow.. shallows and amazons here we come!

Fun place to swim with others. Park at Brown Howe car park as there are toilets!
