River running alongside the Caledonian Canal. Rocky and shallow in summer, but able to swim, approx 1M deep. Incredibly beautiful and peaceful.
Location
Getting there
Path just West of the Kytra Loch; about 100M there is a shingle beach area. Not sure of the road there as I came on a boat, but the lock keepers drive there so must be possible.
Accessibility
Easy, a few slippy rocks; it’s off a grassy path.

- Never swim in fast-flowing or flooded water
- Test entry/exit before you commit. River banks can be undercut.
- Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
- Watch for submerged obstacles like branches, weirs, and rocks
Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.
