About

Slow steady small part of the river. Enough for a dip. Only waist high, but just sat and chilled in there for a while. I was there in the evening and nobody else was anywhere near. Can hear the traffic from the Ebley bypass, but not going to get disturbed by anyone walking by. Quick skinny dip spot to cool off from the hot day.

Location

Getting there

I walked along the canal tow path and then turned on to the Cotswold way (sign posted). Walked past some houses and then in to a large field. Keep right and there are a few places where you can get in and out easily.

Accessibility

Well trodden path with some stinging nettles and the odd random bramble. Apart from that it's easy to get to. Some places to get in and out are muddy, some aren't. The bottom of the river where I got in to was muddy silt at the bottom. Wear swimming shoes if you can. May not be needed at some of the other spots within 100 yards.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check recent rainfall. Rivers rise fast after heavy rain.
  • Never swim in fast-flowing or flooded water
  • Test entry/exit before you commit. River banks can be undercut.
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Watch for submerged obstacles like branches, weirs, and rocks

Conditions change fast. Always check the latest data, read recent community reports, and swim within your ability.
