Conditions change fast. Check local guidance and swim within your limits.
Share what you're seeing. Your conditions report helps other swimmers decide whether to go.
Share conditionsWave height refers to wind-driven waves on the surface, while swell height measures longer-period waves from distant weather systems. Swell period (in seconds) indicates wave energy - longer periods mean more powerful waves.
Sea state uses the Beaufort scale (0-12) which combines wind speed and observed wave conditions. For swimming, Beaufort 0-3 typically means calmer conditions, while 4+ indicates increasing chop and waves.
Glare risk is calculated from sun position relative to the water. When the sun is low on the horizon and in your line of sight, light reflects off the water making it harder to see. This can affect visibility when swimming.
Rip current risk is estimated from wave height, period, and wind conditions. However, local beach geography significantly affects rip currents. Always check local signage and ask lifeguards when available.
Advisory levels (1-5) indicate how conditions match different swimmer profiles based on current data. Level 5 means ideal conditions for that profile, while 1 indicates challenging conditions. These are advisory only - always assess conditions yourself.
