Report temperatureFrequently asked questions
What temperature is safe for wild swimming?
Most swimmers find 15°C+ comfortable. Below 10°C requires careful acclimatisation and you should limit your time in the water. Cold water shock can occur at any temperature below around 15°C, so always enter slowly.
How accurate is the temperature data?
It depends on the water body type. For ocean spots we use satellite sea surface temperature. For rivers and lakes, temperature is estimated from air temperature using published regression models. Accuracy varies by model (typically ±2-3°C). Community reports from swimmers who have been in the water recently are the most accurate local source.
Why might temperature readings differ between sources?
Ocean temperature sources use different satellite instruments and processing methods. NOAA satellite data measures sea surface temperature directly and is generally the most accurate source for coastal and ocean locations. If multiple sources are available, compare them and use the one that best matches your local knowledge.
