Description

Grassington Weir is in Linton, North Yorkshire and home to two weirs, a waterfall, water slide, stepping stones and an old church. The best swimming is found at the upper weir. There's a chute on the far side.

Getting There

You can park in Linton, limited parking. The Linton Falls was 5mins from the car park. Note, you can cross the bridge immediately at the falls, or you can walk along the River Warfe past the Weir on both sides, but only access the top River on the opposite side. No one in Grassington had heard of the Weir as it’s pretty much the same place as Linton Falls, slightly upstream.

Accessibility

There is fab dusty/muddy bank leading down to the water. Getting in without shoes is tricky as the pebbles/rocks were quite large, so more of a spider crawl to get in, if barefoot. A beautiful spot indeed.

A lovely spot for a dip. The water was pretty cold, around 13C start of September 2022. Lots of tiny fish nibbling at your body, the big pebbles made it tricky to get in, so take some shoes. We didn’t venture far out so not sure on the swimming potential. There were a few people fly fish upstream. The water was a brown/red in colour which supposedly is from the clay upstream. There has been issues with water contamination down-stream and a few young people drowning due to the cold waters.
