About
Clevedon Beach is on the Somerset coast overlooking the Bristol Channel next to the Victorian pier. It is a pebble beach, approximately 850 metres wide, backed by the promenade and the town. Swimming at the beach should only be done half an hour either side of high water and only between the pier and the slipway. There are usually locals swimming at that time who can advise on safe swimming as the current is very strong outside the bay area. Dogs are not allowed on this beach.
Location
Getting there
Parking is on the seafront (max 3hrs stay) or in surround streets. The nearest train station is Yatton with regular buses run by First Bus.
Accessibility
There's a slope down to the beach and a smooth, flat concrete promenade. The beach itself and access to the water isn't disabled-friendly - the beach is pebbly and shelves steeply. The currents in the Bristol Channel are extremely strong and great caution should be taken at all times. Please also check the Surfers Against Sewage website and the Environment Agency website for water quality alerts.

Plan your swim
Before you go
- Check tide times before entering. Incoming tides can cut off escape routes.
- Watch for rip currents, especially near groynes and headlands
- Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
- Always swim with others or tell someone your plan
- A tow float makes you visible to boats and other water users

Frequently asked questions
Is this beach safe for swimming?
Check the Conditions tab for current wave height, swell and wind. Review the Quality tab for the latest Environment Agency classification. Always read recent community reports for local knowledge.
When is the best time to swim here?
Check the Tides tab for today's high and low times. Many coastal spots are best around high tide when there's enough water depth, or during slack water when currents are weakest.
What should I bring?
A tow float for visibility, warm layers for after, and footwear for rocky entries. In colder months, consider a wetsuit, gloves, and a swim cap.
