Explore this spot near Bouillante. Great spot for swimming and paddling, kayaking, canoeing, walking and supping. Bouillante is a small town located on the west coast of Basse-Terre, one of the two main islands that make up Guadeloupe. The area is known for its natural hot springs, which give the town its name ("Bouillante" means "boiling" in French). The scenery around Bouillante is characterized by lush green forests and mountains, with the Caribbean Sea visible in the distance. There are several beaches in the area, including Malendure Beach, which is famous for its black volcanic sand and excellent snorkeling opportunities. Additionally, there are several hiking trails in the nearby national park, including the popular hiking trail to the La Soufriere volcano.

Plan your swim

Before you go

  • Check tide times before entering. Incoming tides can cut off escape routes.
  • Watch for rip currents, especially near groynes and headlands
  • Cold water shock is real. Enter slowly and control your breathing.
  • Always swim with others or tell someone your plan
  • A tow float makes you visible to boats and other water users

Check the Tides tab for today's high and low times. Many coastal spots are best around high tide when there's enough water depth, or during slack water when currents are weakest.

What should I bring?

A tow float for visibility, warm layers for after, and footwear for rocky entries. In colder months, consider a wetsuit, gloves, and a swim cap.
